What is CoolSculpting?

Developed by scientists at Harvard University, CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved fat removal and body contouring procedure. It uses a patented “cryolipolysis” technology to target fat cells without compromising the surrounding tissues. This controlled cooling process freezes fat cells, which are then eliminated by the body. Once the fat is gone, the remaining fat cells and skin adjust, resulting in a slimmer area and more defined contours.

Am I a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?

Although CoolSculpting permanently freezes fat cells away, it’s not a weight loss solution or a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise. Individuals who already maintain a healthy body weight but who have areas of stubborn fat that cannot be targeted with other methods make the best candidates for this treatment. During your consultation, our medical team will evaluate several factors such as your health, medical history, cosmetic goals, and expectations to determine if our treatments of CoolSculpting in Santa Monica are right for you.

What Are The Benefits of CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting offers numerous benefits for those seeking fat reduction and body contouring:

  • Non-invasive: No surgery, needles, or anesthesia required.
  • Targeted: Precisely targets stubborn fat deposits in specific areas.
  • No downtime: Patients can return to their daily activities immediately.
  • Long-lasting: Permanent fat reduction with natural-looking results.
  • Safe and FDA-approved: Minimal risk when performed by a qualified provider.
  • Customizable: Tailored treatment plans to suit individual needs and goals.
  • Natural outcomes: Gradual fat reduction for a smoother body contour.

What to Expect During CoolSculpting

During a typical CoolSculpting procedure, the bulge of skin to be treated is held between two cooling panels. Most patients experience sensations of slight pressure, pinching/tugging, and intense cold at the start of the procedure, which quickly subside and allow the patient to relax for the duration of treatment. The amount of time the procedure takes will be determined by how many areas are being treated and which ones.

While some patients begin to notice visible results after about three weeks, the body will continue to remove fat cells for several months, with the most dramatic results occurring between two and three months. Some patients are satisfied after one treatment, but some prefer multiple sessions. This can be discussed during your consultation for CoolSculpting at Santa Monica's Grossman Dermatology.

Abstract background

“CoolSculpting has been a miracle for me! It literally froze the unwanted fat on my back and thighs, and did what I had been unable to do with conscientious diet and exercise. I had gotten to that point where diet and exercise just weren’t addressing the bulges of fat on my back and outer thighs. I didn’t want invasive surgery, weeks of recovery, and no exercise. Dr. Grossman recommended Zeltiq CoolSculpting, non-invasive and no downtime. As with any cosmetic enhancement I’ve had, the areas I treated just keep looking better over time. The best part, though, was seeing a noticeable improvement within a couple of weeks!”

Are There Any Side Effects?

CoolSculpting is clinically tested and has a proven safety profile. However, there are some common side effects which include minor redness, bruising, swelling, and/or tingling in the treated areas, which typically subside in a few days.

How Long Will My Results Last?

What sets CoolSculpting apart from other procedures is its focus on fat reduction, not weight loss. While weight loss solutions shrink fat cells, fat reduction techniques like CoolSculpting completely remove these cells permanently. However, although the fat cells are removed permanently, future weight gain and pregnancy can compromise results. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise after treatment will add longevity to the tighter, slimmer contours achieved with CoolSculpting in Santa Monica.

Abstract background

“Zeltiq CoolSculpting completely exceeded my expectations! I have been very self-conscious of my abs the last 10 years. I exercise at least four times a week and live a healthy lifestyle, but there were areas that would not change. This summer was the first time I felt amazing in a bikini. If you have a problem area that won’t change, this is an amazing option to get the results you want.”

This innovative technology uses controlled cooling to freeze and eliminate fat cells, leading to a gradual and natural-looking reduction in fat bulges. CoolSculpting provides a safe and FDA-approved solution for individuals seeking a non-surgical approach to contouring these problematic areas, with minimal downtime and long-lasting results.

Is CoolSculpting painful?

CoolSculpting is generally well-tolerated by most patients and is not considered painful. During the treatment, patients may experience sensations of cold, tingling, or numbness in the treated area, but these sensations typically subside as the area becomes numb from the cooling.

How long does a CoolSculpting treatment take?

The duration of a CoolSculpting treatment session varies depending on the number of areas being treated and the size of the treatment area. Sessions typically last between 35 minutes to an hour per treatment area.

Are the results of CoolSculpting permanent?

CoolSculpting results are considered long-lasting, as the treated fat cells are permanently eliminated from the body. However, maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle habits are important to prevent the remaining fat cells from expanding.

How many CoolSculpting treatments are needed for optimal results?

The number of CoolSculpting treatments needed varies depending on individual goals and the extent of the desired fat reduction. Many patients achieve their desired results with just one treatment session per area, while others may benefit from multiple sessions for enhanced contouring. A consultation with a CoolSculpting provider can help determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs.
