Treatment and Downtime: What to Expect
To keep bruising as minimal as possible, we recommend that you stop taking blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, St. John’s wort, vitamin E, etc.) two weeks before your appointment. Alcohol consumption should be avoided for a few days before and after treatment as well.
Before your treatment, your lips and the surrounding area will be cleansed and numbed, as there is some discomfort involved. Dr. Grossman administers the lip filler using a very fine needle.
We recommend avoiding exercise or any activity that increases blood flow to the face for 24 hours. Once the swelling has subsided, your lips will feel normal—just plumper and softer.

Juvéderm Volbella
Juvéderm® Volbella was created especially to make smaller improvements to the lips in a way that is subtle and natural—and very customizable. Its soft formula allows for nuanced results to meet the specific aesthetic desires of each patient. In addition to achieving natural-looking results, Volbella is also great for treating lines around the mouth and on the lips, as well as refining and defining lip borders. Overall, Volbella adds finesse and freshens the lips.
Juvéderm Ultra XC
Juvéderm Ultra XC is also an excellent option for enhancing the lips, but because it’s made of a more robust formula than Volbella, it’s more ideal for adding volume and fullness to the lips (whereas Volbella aims for more minor, subtle changes). Juvéderm Ultra XC is well-known for its comfort and consistency, and like Volbella, it also addresses lines around the mouth.
Restylane Refyne/Defyne
Restylane® Refyne and Defyne are excellent dermal fillers for treating not only the lips, but also the laugh lines that surround the lips. RHA Products
The RHA® Filler Collection offers highly customizable fillers for the entire face, and its RHA 2 is excellent for filling the lips and smoothing mild lines around the mouth. RHA products are hyaluronic acid-based, with a specialized formulation that protects and preserves the natural structure of the hyaluronic acid.
Fat Transfer
Fat transfer offers very natural-looking and feeling volume for the lips, as well as longer-lasting results than most fillers. Fat transfer also means no risk of an allergic reaction, as the filler comes from your very own fat.
