What is Photoderm® with Levulan Kerastick®?
The Photoderm® laser is widely used in the dermatology industry to safely and effectively treat a wide range of skin conditions where other solutions fall short.
Photoderm® involves pulses of multicolored light that are delivered directly to the skin. This light bypasses healthy skin and is absorbed by pigmentation and blood vessels, gently heating them until they are destroyed and absorbed by the skin.
This procedure is further optimized with the use of the Levulan Kerastick®, which is applied one hour before the procedure. This light-activated medication further destroys pigmentation and dark spots in the face, a treatment that is estimated to be 60-70 more effective than other laser therapies.
What Does Photoderm® Treat?
Photoderm® with Levulan Kerastick® can significantly improve multiple skin conditions, including:
- Actinic Keratosis
- Pre-cancerous skin lesions
- Acne
- Roscea
- Broken blood vessels
- Fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Age spots
- Sun damage
Depending on your individual condition, multiple sessions may be required.
Am I a Good Candidate for Photoderm® with Levulan Kerastick®?
Healthy men and women who are looking to improve their chronic skin conditions without surgery or invasive procedures may be candidates for this procedure. During your consultation, our medical team will assess your individual condition and customize a treatment plan based on your desired results.
What is the Recovery Like?
While Photoderm® and Levulan Kerastick® provide an effective treatment, they also require special aftercare instructions. After treatment, patients should stay out of the sun completely for 24 hours. Wearing a hat and scarf and sitting in a windowless room for the first day is highly advised while the skin heals.
During the healing process, the skin may turn red and begin to crust and swell. Patients may also experience a flushed appearance akin to a sunburn during the first week of recovery. Until all redness has resolved, patients are typically advised to take precautions while outside and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
