I, Dr. Grossman, am often told I have not aged very much in the past 20 years….
I am one of the first, in the generation of women, who want to hold themselves in time. Often men and women are not yet old enough to need correction – they still look good. But, they are wise enough to know, that if they start to do small things now, they will visibly age less as they grow older. It is always easier to prevent, rather than to correct.
The secret to this is starting young. At least in your early 20’s….with good skin care. The basics of good skin care to prevent aging include topical antioxidants and SPF every day, on all exposed parts of your body. My children have started even younger.
As we age, we loose collagen and elastin in our skin. Keeping that collagen machine going, helps to keep our skin thick and plump. Forma treatments are a great, non-invasive way to stimulate that collagen machine.
Preventative neuromodulators, Botox/Dysport/Xeomin can also help to keep early wrinkles from becoming deeper over time. I, unlike many other doctors, believe that Botox should be started when you have lines at rest not to prevent the lines from appearing. Why spend more money, starting at a younger age, when it will work just as well when the lines start to settle in at rest. One caveat to this is – if you make a lot of unusual faces – i.e. squint a lot, raise your brows, etc. and have an important event – we may do a tiny bit just so your pictures come out beautiful.
Under eye bags and hollows are often a problem of the very young. Sorry, this is genetic. Filler in this area corrects the visual problem and creates a more rested looking eye. It will also stimulate collagen production, resulting in less need for treatment over time.
Many young people remember to protect their face, but forget about their neck, shoulders, arms, chests, legs, etc. Remember to take good care of all your body parts and protect them from the sun daily. Just as the sun effects your face, it effects all your skin causing loose, discolored skin later in life.
As we age, we lose collagen and elastin in our skin. Keeping that collagen machine going, helps to keep our skin thick and plump. Forma treatments are a great, non-invasive way to stimulate that collagen machine. Many young patients in their 20’s will do this a few times a year. If you are slightly older, or need more correction, Thermage is the procedure of choice. The bulk heating of the skin, not only tightens your skin, but also stimulates new hyaluronic acid and collagen production.
